Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has assured that agriculture is a way out of hunger in Nigeria.
The governor stated this when he, in company of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu among other government officials inspected some of the tractors and handhelds delivered to the State at the Minna International Airport.
The agricultural equipment was delivered in fulfillment of the 650 million dollar partnership the state government signed with John Deere Limited, the world’s best manufacturer of tractors.
He explained that the delivery which is in phases will have over 300 tractors and 1,000 handhelds before the end of the month under the first phase, adding that the state is expecting more than 1,000 tractors in the next six months.
The governor maintained that the effort is geared towards achieving the national policy on food security with the state given opportunity for the pilot scheme.
He said the State has signed partnerships with many investors in agriculture and that it is expecting kits on irrigation, adding that bulldozers have so far cleared over a million hectares of land for cultivation.
The governor announced that farmers in the state are the beneficiaries of the agricultural equipment.
Similarly, Governor Bago inspected the ongoing remodelling terminal and the fire station of the airport.
