Sokoto APC chairman calls for implementation of wage awards, palliatives

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Sokoto State chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Jungle, has appealed to the government to, as a matter of urgency, implement wage awards to the state civil servants.

Jungle, while addressing newsmen shortly after embarking on the national protest declared by the national secretariat of the union, further called for the distribution of palliatives.

The rally, which started from the secretariat of the union in the state, took the protesters through the Miyetti Allah roundabout to the government house and terminated at the secretariat.

He appealed to the government to stop further devaluation of the naira, which he described as the genesis of the current economic hardship in the country.

“We thank God for the peaceful protest today, and we appreciate the security for their support.

“We want to appeal to the government, especially the Sokoto State government, to, as a matter of urgency, pay wage awards to our members.

“We want the governor to also fulfil his promise by making palliatives available to the civil servants in order to curtail this hunger,” he added.

The national protest was joined by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, and medical and health workers, among others.
