Ondo guber: Group to engage aspirants, sue for peace

A civil society organisation, Ondo State Conscience Movement (OCM), has said it has concluded plans to interface with all the governorship aspirants from all the political parties ahead of the November governorship election.

Chairman of OCM, Mr Shalom Olaseni, disclosed this during the 18 local government directorate meetings of the organisation held at the Heritage Hotel Ijapo, Akure, Ondo State capital.

Olaseni, in a statement he signed, highlighted the importance of the organisation engaging the aspirants to enable them to tell the good people of the state what they have in stock for them.

He added that the era in which a candidate will just emerge without a clear picture of what they want to do for the masses has gone and gone forever.

According to him, “We are going to do all we can legitimately to engage all these aspirants; we will listen to them and ensure we recommend the best among them for the good people of the state.”.

“We are not going to recommend the best candidate for the masses alone; we will put our membership strength across the 18 local government areas of the state and mobilise them for such a candidate.”

“Ondo State is our state, and we must contribute to its development in all its ramifications. This is not the time to play ostrich; we are going to be involved in terms of voter education, orientation and reorientation, electoral participation and turnout.”

“We have members across all 18 local government areas down to the 203 wards, including the 3,933 polling units, and we are halfway through our 203 wards tour, which we commenced last October.

“We will also continue checking the aspirants from all the political parties, digging deep into all of them, and making our findings public.”

“We will make our assessment based on all our findings, which will form the basis of our recommendation and support for the candidate who shares the same ideology and philosophy as our organisation,” he said.
