The Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Calabar joined other women from around the world to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).
The event, held at the Officers’ Mess Moore road on Friday, was aimed at reaching out to wives of serving police officers and wives of deceased police officers in the state.
In his remarks, Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah, noted that the program aimed at awakening the collective consciousness of women as well as giving them the courage to renounce all forms of prejudiced knowledge.
“I want to share in your happy mode. I am aware this is your inaugural celebration of this this day in this command and I’m hopeful it will continue. Put into action the messages of today, engage yourselves positively and avoid staying idle.”

CP Grimah also called on all women to take advantage of this global event to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while campaigning for gender equality and vital rights other of women.
Also speaking at the event, the wife of the Police Commissioner, Cross River State Command, Mrs. Julia Augustine Grimah, called on women to support the struggle beyond celebration to have a broader platform to make maximum contributions to the country’s development.
“This is through the initiative of our IG’s wife in Abuja, Pst. Dr Elizabeth Kayode Egbetokun, she asked us to do our best this day and empower 50 Police Officers Wives and 50 Late Police Officers Wives, making it hundred women with some food stuff. You can see that they are very excited.
“My message is that we should not detest our fellow women, if we love ourselves we will be able to support ourselves and scale greater heights.
The highlight of the event was the sharing of food items such as rice and yams to all women.
