Renowned Nigerian actress Nkechi Blessings has raised alarm over the safety of the recently reconstructed Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, cautioning Nigerians that it could potentially pose as a “death trap and enjoined Lagos government to install speed cameras.
Sharing her harrowing experience and expressing condolences for the loss of a friend due to an accident on the same road, Blessings urged motorists to exercise caution and refrain from speeding on the bridge.
In a message posted on her social media platform, Blessings acknowledged the efforts of those responsible for the reconstruction but emphasised that, despite its improved appearance, the bridge still harbours significant safety concerns.
She recounted a recent incident where her steering wheel nearly slipped from her hands while driving on the bridge, despite not exceeding the speed limit.
Nkechi then went on to urge the state governor to install speed limit cameras on the bridge because rough riders cannot be cautioned.
She insisted that almost all Nigerians are well-traveled, and they adhere to speed limits in other countries.
The 35-year-old movie star wrote:
“I appreciate whoever is in charge of the reconstruction of the 3RD Mainland Bridge, but I can categorically tell you that the new bridge is dangerous, more like a death trap….With my driving experience on that bridge two nights ago, please and please do not drive speed on that bridge, yes it’s a beautiful and smooth bridge now compared to the way it was before, but I almost had an accident two nights ago, not like I was even speeding cus me no sabi drive speed, but my steering almost left my hands while driving…then just last night I lost a good friend on that same bridge, it hurts but What can we call this? A Blessing or a curse? Rest well Akintoye. Please do NOT over SPEED on the new 3rd mainland Bridge Please I am begging you. Untimely death will never be our portion. #Riptoyebeneon.”
