Nigerian leaders at all levels have been warned against breaking trusts and promises made because Allah frowns at breaking such trusts and promises.
The warning was made by a Nigeria-based International Islamic Scholar, Associate Professor Muhammad Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemo during the 9th session of the 2024 Ramadan Tafsir that is currently holding in Bauchi.
The Islamic Cleric also said that as long as leaders and followers at all levels do not see the wrong in breaking the trust and promises they make, society will keep sliding into more moral decadence, retrogression, and underdevelopment.
The Scholar also said that such trust and promises are covenants made between human beings and their Creator regarding the dos and don’ts of life stressing that when humans break such covenants, the wreath of Allah (SWA) will always befall such society.
The Scholar started the 9th-day session with Verse 10 of Suratul Muminun of the Glorious Qur’an which talks about trust, honesty, and promises.
He said that, aside from making covenant with Allah, there is trust, promises, agreement, etc between two or more people, and that very rare one see such trust, agreement, and promises being kept secret by both parties.
According to the renowned Islamic Scholar, “These days whomever you entrust with either leadership position, money, property, office appointment, secret etc, the prospect of keeping such trusts is very slim”.
He also said, “Everything that is pious and righteous, like the Prophets and Angels of God are associated with being trustworthy, keep promises and exhibiting honest”.
“So long as people are going to remain untrustworthy, dishonest and not honouring promises they made, then such society will not know peace. Such society will be afflicted with societal ills like fornications, homosexualities, drug addiction, lesbianism, banditry, kidnapping etc”, said Professor Sani Umar.
The scholar took the best of 35 minutes emphasing the need for society to change for the better and also quoted relevant sections of the Qur’an, Hadiths, and Narratives of other scholars to buttress his point.
The Tafsir session was attended by Muslim faithful from different parts of the state and walks of life as is the tradition every Ramadan period.
