Educators and other staff of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education have been warned to desist from posting unverified and unverifiable information on social media, which can dent the integrity of the government.
The warning was contained in a statement by the Ministry through the Information Officer, Jalaludeen Usman, titled ‘Urgent Attention: Responsible Social Media Sharing Among Educators’, copies of which were made available to journalists on Sunday.
The statement reads: “Dear esteemed teachers and Ministry of Education Staff, as valued members of the education system in Bauchi State, we must uphold the integrity and credibility of our profession at all times.”
The Ministry stated that “it has come to our attention that there have been instances of sharing unverified information on social media platforms.”
“While social media can be a powerful tool for communication, it is imperative that we exercise caution and responsibility in what we share. Spreading unverified information can lead to misinformation and tarnish the reputation of our education system,” it stressed.
The Ministry further stressed that as educators and representatives of the Ministry of Education, it is our duty to promote accurate information and uphold the standards of integrity within our profession.”
It advised, “Let us prioritise fact-checking and ensuring the accuracy of the information before sharing it with others.”
“I urge each one of you to be mindful of the content you share on social media and to refrain from sharing anything that has not been proven to be accurate or correct. Let us work together to maintain the good image and integrity of our education system,” the IO stated.
