Socio-political analyst Reno Omokri recently revealed that he had recommended Peter Obi as a running mate to former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in 2019.
Omokri disclosed that he made this recommendation in response to a request from Atiku.
During an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on his podcast, Mic On, the former presidential aide emphasized his commitment to supporting Atiku and stated his intention not to switch allegiance to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, despite his endorsement of some of Tinubu’s economic recovery policies.
Omokri clarified, “Peter Obi can’t deny that I was the one who recommended him to Waziri Atiku Abubakar when he asked me to help choose a running mate in 2019.”

He further explained the process, mentioning his consultation with former President Jonathan and their decision to provide a list of potential running mates, with Obi’s name prominently featured.
“Atiku chose Obi so after a man had done me just great honour, I will now turn around and be supporting his opponent in the next election?
“I can’t do that, if Atiku decide to contest in 2027 and get the PDP’s presidential candidate, I’m duty bound to support him.”
