Yahaya Bello: UPPP urges Tinubu to caution EFCC

The United Progressive Political Parties, (UPPP) Kogi State Chapter has advised that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu should caution all those saddled with the capacity to enforce the law in all its ramifications to do so with diligence in line with the rule of law.

Addressing newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday, on the issue of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and the EFCC, the spokeswoman of the group, Hon. Ibrahim Itodo, said the EFCC Chairman should not hide behind Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s case as accused for his incompetence in doing the right thing; he should resign voluntarily for lacking capacity and competence to administer the EFCC. Your personal issues with the accused should not be vented to Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.

His words, “We are amazed at the simultaneous responses to the former governor, Alh Yahaya Adoza Bello, by the Inspector General of Police, the Minister of Justice, the Anthony General of the Federation, and all other security agencies by declaring the governor wanted. This is tantamount to a complete disregard for the rule of law and flagrant disobedience of the Constitution that protects our fundamental human rights in Nigeria.

“After our thorough investigation of the dramatisation of the EfCC in the residence of our immediate past Governor Alh Yahaya Adoza Bello, it was clear and unambiguous that the abiding citizen, the man who has meritoriously served Kogi state with all sense of commitment and honour, deserves to be treated by the constituted authority in all arms of this country.

“Our press conference today should not be misconstrued as supporting corruption but to call on all those saddled with the responsibilities of law and order to be cautioned to apply due diligence in administering the rule by following due process. It’s quite provoking, and I am unable to fathom why His Excellency Alh Yahaya Adoza Bello was declared wanted with impunity even when he’s been protected by lawful security aides sent by the IGP and also restricted from being arrested and intimidated by the high court in Kogi State. This is a complete hogwash and berates the lack of justice and fairness of the immediate past governor of Kogi State.

“We advise that Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello’s name be removed from the wanted list because it was done with impunity and flagrant disobedience to the law.

The political group therefore said they no longer have confidence in the chairman to investigate and persecute Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello because he will not be treated fairly under the present chairman.

He equally added that the Minister of Justice, the Anthony General of the Federation, and the Inspector General of Police, who are the custodians of the rule of law, should do so discreetly without abusing human rights.

“Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, has left an indelible mark in the annals of history, especially in security, education, health, infrastructure, and human capital development.
We also want to use this channel to warn the enemies of Kogi State who are bent on creating crises because of their selfish interest in desisting from calling for the impeachment of our governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, because their efforts are futile. Our governor is a law-abiding citizen of Kogi State and cannot shield lawbreakers.

“Kogites are advised to be calm as we await the outcome of the process of the rule of law and the continuous protection of fundamental human rights of our former Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.
