Ibom Air to partner Akwa Ibom health ministry to fight malaria

The management of Akwa Ibom State’s own airline, Ibom Air Limited, says it will continue to partner with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health in the fight against the malaria scourge, especially among the elderly, pregnant women, and children from zero to five years old.

Speaking while delivering 3000 doses of sulfadoxine or pyrimethamine (SP oral) and 1000 pieces of insecticide-treated bednets to the state ministry of health in Uyo on Thursday, The General Manager of Ibom Air, Mr George Uriesi, said the gesture was in fulfilment of the Airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the people.

Uriesi explained that the target population remains pregnant women and children from zero to five years old to be protected against malaria.

“The realisation is that it’s not only government alone. The benefit is for everybody. I believe that the token we have presented today will help some people.

“But the most important thing is that Ibom Air can contribute to the awareness because we need to make people aware of what to do.

“We have the opportunity to carry people every day to realise that they have things to contribute by keeping the environment clean and what to do when they get infected by the malaria parasite.

“I think this token will be judiciously used.” Ibom Air boss maintained.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Umoh, who received the items for the state government, urged other companies operating in the state to emulate the gesture of Ibom Air in driving the A-R-I-S-E Agenda of the present administration.

“It is with appreciation and joy in our hearts that we receive them, with a promise that they will be effectively utilised. We will monitor their utilisation and ensure that this confidence by Ibom Air is given to the Ministry to get this to our people. We will ensure that this confidence is not broken.

“I enjoined other well-meaning companies and other corporate citizens, as well as other Nigerians, to join Ibom Air and add value to the good work of His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno in the healthcare sector.”. He said,.

He, however, used the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the drug, and the bednets as such can lead to the total eradication of the malaria scourge in the state, country, and Africa in general.
