The residents of Gboko East State Constituency in Benue State have sounded the alarm over alleged plans to oust their representative, Mrs. Becky Orpin, from the House of Assembly.
Speaking to journalists in Makurdi on Monday, the community’s spokesperson, Terrence Kuanum, condemned what they perceive as orchestrated attempts by adversaries to undermine Orpin’s leadership and sow discord within the ruling party.
Kuanum stressed the unshakeable faith of Gboko East constituents in Orpin’s ability to fulfill their mandate, asserting, “It is evident that those spearheading the campaign to remove her and destabilize our party in Gboko East, before defecting to other political factions, are rapidly losing ground, despite leveraging the state government’s resources.”
Architects of this agenda can’t wait anymore, hence the use of any willing tool and other low-hanging fruits amongst our people. That is why they have become ruthless and more aggressive in their drive to destroy our party in Gboko East before decamping to another party.”
“The people dismissed recent plans to recall Orpin as a mere ploy initiated by political detractors, citing overwhelming support from the 12 council ward executives and stakeholders across the constituency.
Kuanum warned against what he described as ‘dangerous precedence’ trying to be set by such plans just as he urged stakeholders to prioritize unity and peace over divisive political machinations.

The Group reaffirmed their allegiance to Mrs Orpin, asserting that the power of the people remains paramount in determining their representation.
Speaking on a purported plan to recall her, Orpin who spoke to our correspondent described it as ‘rumour she could not push aside’.
She alleged that the intelligence report accused the speaker of the house, Dajoh Hyacinth as the sponsor of the recall process.
Both the Speaker and Orpin hail from Gboko LGA, while the speaker represents Gboko West state constituency, Orpin represents Gboko East state constituency.
Orpin said, “Someone is peddling that rumour of my recall, the vendor said they have met with the speaker that he is part of the planning that I should be recalled.
“When people in my constituency got wind of it they decided to hold an emergency meeting and they came out with a communique which is flying around.
In a swift response, the speaker of the state assembly described it as
unfounded.
The speaker who spoke to our correspondent on the phone on Monday said that she held Mrs in high esteem, describing her as a mother figure.
“I have no issue with Becky Orpin. We both contested for the position of Speaker and at the end of the day God said it should be me. And Becky is like a mother to me. She heads the Committee on Appropriation and the Committee on Women Affairs.
