Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is poised for a departure from the club, with a deal in place for the goalkeeper to join Newcastle during the summer transfer window.
Having made a significant £24 million move from Sheffield United in 2021, Ramsdale initially secured the position as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, amassing 78 appearances over his first two seasons in north London. However, the loan arrival of David Raya from Brentford has cast doubt on Ramsdale’s future at the club, resulting in limited Premier League appearances under Mikel Arteta this season.
With Raya expected to make a permanent move to Arsenal in the summer, reports indicate that the Gunners are open to offers for Ramsdale, who still has two years remaining on his current contract. While Chelsea has shown long-standing interest in Ramsdale, it is Newcastle that has surged ahead in the race for his signature. Sky Sports’ James Green reports that the goalkeeper has agreed to a deal for a potential move to St James’ Park.
Speaking on Highbury Squad, Green revealed insights from the player’s agent, confirming the agreement: “It’s my understanding that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle in the summer. That’s come direct through speaking to somebody I’m very close with who is close with his agent and he says it’s done. The deal is happening.”
Arteta’s handling of Ramsdale has sparked debate among Arsenal supporters. Jens Lehmann, a member of Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles squad, expressed confusion over the decision to sideline Ramsdale, while David Seaman suggested that a move away from Arsenal could benefit Ramsdale’s career, citing clubs like Chelsea and West Ham as potential destinations for the 26-year-old goalkeeper.
