Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been named the new head coach of Heerenveen, marking his debut managerial position.
At 40 years old, Van Persie steps into his first managerial role after retiring from professional football in 2019, concluding his career with his childhood team Feyenoord.
Previously, he oversaw the Under-18s at Feyenoord this season before transitioning to his new role at Heerenveen.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Van Persie stated, “I am eager to continue my development, and the position of head coach aligns perfectly with that aspiration. I am therefore delighted with the opportunity presented by Heerenveen.”
He emphasized the appeal of Heerenveen, describing it as “a highly esteemed Eredivisie club with a rich heritage and dedicated supporters.”
