Lagos State Government said it has in the last one year, spent N1 billion to render assistance to 1,681 vulnerable people in the state, noting that the assistance, which is still ongoing, was to lift them from poverty.
Dr Afolabi Tajudeen, the Special Adviser (SA) to Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made this disclosure on Monday while speaking at the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the first year of 2nd Term of the state governor.
The governor’s aide further disclosed that an additional 1,774 people would in the next few weeks also benefit from the largesse of the government, saying that anybody who needed the assistance of the state government could apply and the person must also be registered as a resident of the state.
Tajudeen maintained that the state had also created a telecommunications system whereby every complaint about government policies and information about the state can be got, saying that the system which is labelled Lagos citizens gave mobile applications and recorded over 233,395 visitors to the platform.
Speaking against the backdrop of the information that the relationship between the Executive arm and the Legislative arm was not cordial, he debunked such, saying that it was an erroneous conclusion for the public to assume the relationship between the two arms was not cordial.
“There is a harmonious relationship between the Executive arm and the Legislative arm since the inception of this administration.
“The governor, Mr Sanwo-Olu has told us members of the Executive Council that whenever we receive an invitation letter from the House of Assembly, we should respond promptly. Moreso if there is any protest in the House of Assembly, we of the political and legislative office do go there to know what the protest is about and report back to the state governor.
“The governor has emphasized that the harmonious relationship must be sustained,” he said.
On the activities of his office, Tajudeen said his office was designed to enlighten communities on government policies, initiatives and expected to allow for harmonious, and conflict-free society to ensure improved social development.
He maintained that there was regular Executive/Legislative parley between the Executive arm and the Legislative arm, saying that such was an avenue to deliberate and chart a new course for the development of the state.
He disclosed that part of the resolutions reached at the last parley was the need to expedite action on the proposed establishment of Lagos Airline to enhance the economic prosperity of the state, adding that his office was working at publishing compendium of laws passed by the state Assembly so far, to be published in English and local languages spoken in the state.
Besides, he maintained that his office also had regular interaction with representatives of the state at the National Assembly by visiting them and impressing on them the major needs of the people of the state.
According to him, the discussion and regular parley with the state representative at the National Assembly has started yielding positive results, expressing the belief that the state shall soon be granted the special status it had been clamouring for.
This was just as disclosed that all arrangements had been concluded to get the 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state listed as full-fledged local government areas.
