A star-studded lineup of Brazilian football legends, including World Cup champions Ronaldinho, Cafu, and Bebeto, will participate in a charity match aimed at supporting victims of severe flooding in the country’s southern region, organizers announced on Wednesday.
The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday at 4:00 pm (1900 GMT) at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracana stadium. Joining the illustrious trio will be current men’s national team coach Dorival Junior and women’s team defender Tamires.
“We’ve lifted the World Cup trophy, now let’s raise the cup of solidarity,” remarked Cafu, a two-time World Cup winner in 1994 and 2002, as reported by Globo Esporte.
Dorival Junior echoed the sentiment, urging all Brazilians to support the initiative to aid those affected in Rio Grande do Sul, the southern state grappling with devastating floods. The calamity has claimed over 160 lives and submerged 90 percent of its towns, including the capital, Porto Alegre.
Tickets for the match will be available starting at approximately $6, with all proceeds from ticket sales and television broadcasting earmarked for charities aiding flood victims. The event is sponsored by TV network Globo, in collaboration with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Rio city hall, and popular football club Flamengo.
