Barcelona has reportedly compensated Xavi with €2.5 million following the termination of his managerial contract. Just a month after retracting his decision to step down this summer, Xavi was relieved of his duties due to public comments about the club’s transfer dealings, which irked president Joan Laporta, prompting a swift dismissal.
Xavi had one year remaining on his Barcelona contract, entitled to around €11 million in compensation for its termination. However, SPORT has confirmed that the 44-year-old willingly forfeited his compensation. Instead, he requested reimbursement for the €2.5 million he paid to terminate his contract with Al Sadd before joining Camp Nou in November 2021, a request to which the club has agreed.
Additionally, Xavi demanded full compensation for his backroom staff for the termination of their contracts, which has now been resolved.
Barcelona is advancing plans to appoint former Germany boss Hansi Flick as Xavi’s replacement, having agreed on terms for a two-year contract with the 59-year-old. Flick, accompanied by his agent Pini Zahavi, arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday, and reports suggest he could be unveiled as the new manager as early as Wednesday.
Flick’s contract is understood to be significantly less lucrative than Xavi’s. He is set to earn an annual salary of €3 million, with bonuses of €1 million for winning the Champions League and €750,000 for clinching a La Liga title.
There’s no immediate plan for a press conference to introduce Flick, as he will take several weeks to acquaint himself with Camp Nou affairs before facing the media.
