Liverpool is reportedly eyeing a move for versatile forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, according to a report.
The Reds are ushering in a new era following the departure of club legend Jurgen Klopp, who has stepped down from his managerial role after a highly successful nine-year tenure. In his place, Liverpool has appointed Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as their new head coach, as part of a revamped footballing structure. Transfer affairs are expected to be overseen by FSG’s CEO of football, Michael Edwards, along with the club’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes.
L’Equipe reports that Liverpool, along with Newcastle United, has already expressed interest in Mbeumo.
In an interview with the same outlet, Mbeumo hinted at a potential move away from Brentford, expressing his desire to compete for the game’s most prestigious honors.
“I spent five seasons at Brentford, in a club that helped me grow and take a step forward. But yes, I want to play in the biggest competitions, for the best clubs,” he stated.
“It’s still exciting to see some big teams interested in me. We’ll see.”
Mbeumo’s contract with Brentford runs until 2026, with the option for the club to extend it for an additional 12 months.
Since joining Brentford in 2019, Mbeumo has amassed 50 goals and 42 assists in 200 appearances, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s top forwards outside the traditional ‘big six’.
When asked about areas for improvement, Mbeumo highlighted his one-on-one abilities and finishing prowess, emphasizing the importance of continuous development both on and off the field.
