Mobil, a multinational oil and gas company, has commenced the training of over 1,000 auto technicians from the 33 local government areas in modern techniques and technology.
This as the Oyo State Government announced its collaboration with multinational companies to drive Governor Seyi Makinde’s economic expansion agenda.
The State Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry, and Cooperative, Otunba Ademola Ojo, stated that the training is part of the benefits for traders and artisans who register with the state government. He added that an app design is being completed to connect vehicle owners with certified auto technicians trained by Mobil.
Discussions are ongoing with Total Energy to procure tools and equipment for capacity building, while insurance policies, financial support, and healthcare schemes are being put in place for registered traders and artisans.
The business landscape in Oyo State is experiencing a surge in activity, with multinational corporations flocking to the state due to the conducive environment for commerce. Mobil’s confidence in the state’s potential is evident in its investment in workforce development.
The training aims to equip auto technicians with skills and knowledge to meet the growing demand in the automotive industry. Once registered, participants will have access to grants and financial support from the federal and state governments.
The State Representative of Mobil, Mr Yinka Adaralegbe, lauded Governor Makinde for creating a business-friendly environment, which led to the initiative to train over 1,000 auto technicians.
The training programme covers automotive repair and maintenance techniques, designed to empower participants with practical skills in high demand within the automotive industry.
Others in attendance are the State Consultant for Trade, Mr Banke Bello, and Mobil’s Technical Instructors for the training.
