Adamawa LG poll: PDP’s chairmanship aspirants to pay N10m for forms

Following the declaration that the local government elections in Adamawa State will be held on July 13, 2024, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a sum of N10 million and N120,000 million, respectively, for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms.

The state chairman of the party disclosed this today at a press conference in Yola.

He said the goal is to kickstart activities in the party ahead of the council election.

The chairman of the party, Barr. Tahir Shehu, said, “Our party has put up modalities to ensure a free and fair electoral process that will ensure only the most popular persons emerge as the party’s candidates.”.

While stating that the amount placed on the purchase of the forms is for the male contestants, he also announced that in the spirit of gender equity and respect for people living with disabilities (PLWD), the party will slash 50 per cent of the cost of the nomination form for the two groups.

He also disclosed the timelines for the different activities ahead of the local government election. Shehu said the sales of nomination forms will start from June 7–12, 2024.

According to the party chairman, “the sales of 3 ad hoc delegate forms will take place on June 10, 2024, while submission of completed forms will take place between June 13 and 14, 2024.

Stressing that all the activities of the party herding the election will end on June 23, 2024.

While expressing confidence in the Adamawa State Electoral Commission (ASIEC), the chairman said we will ensure a free and fair election for our candidates to emerge.

He reiterates the party’s decision to maintain utmost neutrality during the election process, adding that “only popular aspirants will emerge as candidates of the party during the primaries.”
