EPL: VAR Retained as 19 Clubs Approve Six Modifications

At least 19 Premier League teams showed their support on Thursday for the continuation of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system into the next season.

A minimum of 14 votes in favor from the 20 clubs was necessary for any changes to be implemented. The decision was made following a proposal by Wolves to cease the use of VAR.

During the meeting on Thursday, all 20 top-flight clubs agreed to focus on six key areas for improving the implementation of VAR. These include raising the threshold for technology intervention and reducing game delays.

A statement from the Premier League emphasized: “Premier League clubs today voted in favor of continuing to operate VAR in the Premier League. While VAR contributes to more accurate decision-making, it was acknowledged that enhancements should be pursued for the betterment of the game and its supporters.”
