Martinez defended Ronaldo’s capabilities despite concerns about his age and transition from the Saudi Pro League to the tournament. Highlighting Ronaldo’s extensive playing time and contributions, Martinez emphasized Ronaldo’s experience, goal-scoring prowess, and ability to create opportunities.
“Cristiano brings invaluable experience, goal-scoring instincts, and the ability to create space,” Martinez stated. “His stats over the past year speak for themselves—he’s scored 51 goals in 50 games. Physically, he’s shown he can handle matches every four days.”
Ronaldo, who has featured in every Euros tournament since 2004 and holds the record for most goals scored in the competition, aims to rebound after a goalless outing against Czechia in Portugal’s opening game. Their upcoming match against Turkey, buoyed by a recent victory over Georgia, poses a fresh challenge for Portugal, who seek to capitalize on attacking opportunities according to forward Rafael Leao.
