Real Madrid have reportedly shown interest in Bologna center-back Riccardo Calafiori, who has been impressing at Euro 2024.
Calafiori, aged 22, entered the summer after a standout Serie A season that piqued Juventus’ interest, but his stellar performances for Italy have now attracted attention from scouts across Europe.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are increasingly worried about their chances of reuniting Calafiori with former manager Thiago Motta in Turin, due to the escalating cost of the transfer and heightened competition for his signature.
Real Madrid have been monitoring Calafiori this summer as part of their strategy to acquire promising young talents globally.
Following the departure of club captain Nacho Fernandez, Real Madrid’s senior center-back options now include Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Antonio Rudiger. There is also interest in signing Lille’s 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro, though negotiations have yet to advance significantly.
Calafiori has emerged as a potential target, commanding an asking price reportedly increased from €40m (£34m) to €50m (£42m). Bologna, however, remains firm due to a 40% sell-on clause owed to Calafiori’s former club, Basel.
This valuation may prove too steep for Juventus, yet Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in securing Calafiori post Euro 2024.
Bologna intends to evaluate offers meticulously, given Calafiori’s contract until 2027, aiming to secure a substantial fee for the 22-year-old.
Additionally, there is tentative interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United in potentially securing Calafiori’s services.
