Enzo Maresca expressed his belief that Chelsea’s squad is brimming with talent and cited his admiration for the club’s Italian connections as key factors influencing his decision to join.

Recently appointed as head coach, Maresca signed a four-year contract to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. In his inaugural interview with Chelsea’s official channels since moving from Leicester City, Maresca highlighted his eagerness to work with the new squad, emphasizing the importance of fostering the right team culture for the upcoming season.

He emphasized his philosophy that improving individual players is fundamental to enhancing the overall team performance, setting a clear target to advance their skills daily.

Maresca also joins an esteemed lineage of Italian managers at Chelsea, following the likes of Gianluca Vialli, Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto Di Matteo, Antonio Conte, and Maurizio Sarri.

The 44-year-old also noted that his Italian heritage provided additional motivation for joining Chelsea.

“It’s definitely one of the reasons [I joined]. I’m very proud to represent Italian management here once again. There seems to be a special synergy between Chelsea as a club, as a family, and the Italian people that works really well!” Maresca remarked.

Maresca’s Chelsea team will embark on a pre-season tour in the US later this month, featuring five matches against Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid. Upon their return to Stamford Bridge, they will face Inter in a final friendly before the season commences.

The Blues will start their Premier League campaign at home against Manchester City, the club where Maresca spent two years as part of their coaching staff.
