Two commissioners resign in Abia

The Abia State Government (ABSG) has announced the resignation of two Commissioners from its cabinet.

In a press release by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Abia, titled “Resignation of 2 Commissioners From The Cabinet of Abia State Government,” the state identified the Commissioners as Mr. Chima Oriaku – Commissioner for Science and Technology, and Prof. Monica Ironkwe – Commissioner for Agriculture.

The statement noted that the Commissioners tendered their resignation letters to the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti. Governor Alex Otti thanked them for their service and sacrifice to the state and wished them well in their future endeavors.

The state government did not disclose the reasons for their resignation.

However, controversy surrounds the alleged resignations, with various sources suggesting they were either sacked, asked to resign, or left voluntarily.

Confirming the report, the Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha Njoku, stated, “The two Commissioners resigned from the cabinet. No one was sacked. Disregard the trending rumors.”

Earlier this year, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, was placed on indefinite leave, Chief Press Secretary Kazie Uko was removed, Director General of Abia State Orientation Agency Pastor Dike Nwankwo was replaced, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment Joy Maduka was compulsorily retired.
