Akwa Ibom LG polls: PDP assures of transparency, adherence to guidelines

Ahead of the 2024 Local Government elections scheduled to take place in October, the PDP has said the party will imbibe the principles of fair play and transparency and also adhere to the guidelines throughout the exercise.

This was stated as aspirants vying for the councillorship seats across the 369 wards in Akwa Ibom State have started picking up expressions of interest and nomination forms as part of the requirements for the primaries.

This follows the notice of commencement of sales of expression of interest and nomination forms by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom.

Addressing newsmen shortly after putting modalities in place for the commencement of sales of forms, the state chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan , said the sales of forms which commenced yesterday and will end on Wednesday, July 24th 2024, will take place everyday except on Sundays, during the stipulated timeframe.

He noted that for Saturdays, the collection of nomination and expression of interest forms will take place from 9am and end by 3pm.

The Akwa Ibom State PDP helmsman said in keeping with the entrenched tradition of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, the party will imbibe the principles of fair play and transparency and also adhere to the guidelines throughout the exercise.

Akpan said “Our party, the PDP has put all modalities in motion to ensure that we have a successful outing. Yesterday, we announced the commencement of sales of forms and once that process is completed, submission will begin and also end on the stipulated dates. Thereafter we will screen candidates.

“I wish to reiterate the advice of the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State who is our Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, that leaders and stakeholders across the different Local Government Areas and wards must ensure that their actions, resolutions and choices promote the current legacy of peace that we enjoy in this state and also make winning very easy for our party, the PDP. We must, through our actions and choices continue to uphold and make good the trust of Akwa Ibom on the PDP which has made them continue to choose our party as the most preferred platform for the emergence of leaders and representatives.”

Aspirants who picked up the forms so far include; male and female members of the PDP vying for the councillorship position across the state.
