The Civil Society Coalition (CSO) Kano state chapter has distanced itself from a nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024, citing ulterior motives behind the unknown sponsors.
The group believes the protest could cause untold hardship and mayhem in the country.
The group’s National President Alhaji Muhammad Musbahu Basirka stated this onn Sunday.
According to him, Nigeria needs prayer and collective responsibility, not protest, to move forward.
He acknowledged the suffering, hardship, and frustration in Nigeria but warned that protest could be hijacked by miscreants, leading to looting and loss of life.
The group questioned the sponsors, who are mostly based in foreign countries, to return home and contribute to nation-building rather than calling for crisis through protest.
They cited the #EndSARS protest as an example of how social media can be used to demand change, but emphasized the need for strategic advocacy as an alternative to protests.
The CSO called on the government to address the current hardship by reducing prices of food and essential commodities, ensuring security and stability, and providing job opportunities and empowerment schemes for young Nigerians.
They urged social media influencers and activists to maintain peace and unity while demanding accountability and good governance.
