Jigawa State Government in collaboration with Global Fund Nigeria (GFN) has targeted over 8,850 children to receive malaria prevention drugs in the Jahun local government area of the state.
This was disclosed by the manager of Jahun Primary Health Care (PHC) unit, Malam Ghali Iguda also confirmed the receiving a total of 194,250 insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) for free distribution across the 10 political wards of the area.
The manager explained that in its determination to successfully administer complete dosage of the Malaria prevention drugs the council had constituted Socal Mobilisation Committee and embarked on massive public enlightenment campaign on the importance of the drugs to the children.
According to him “the Social Mobilization Committee organized enlightenment campaign on the important of the drugs, the age of the targeted children how to use ITNs at the palaces of four district heads in the local government area”.
He said, “already established 96 SPAK and ITNs, 16 at each of the 10 wards. We also formed 548 teams to carryout the distribution of ITNs and administering the SPAK drugs to children below five years”.
Malam Ghali Iguda noted that “we are at the peak of mosquito breeding period as stagnant water is all over, people are in dear need of the drugs and treated net, “the distribution is in partnership between the government and Malaria consortium aimed to curtail the menace of malaria diseases”.
He urged parents of children aged 3-59 months to ensure they collect a complete four dosages of the drugs and use the nets to protect their children and themselves from the diseases.
