Notable dignitaries from Cross River have praised the late highlife musician, Chief Charles Effiom-Duke, as a remarkable figure dedicated to making a lasting impact in the entertainment industry.
Senator Jonas Eteng Williams, representing Cross River Central Senatorial District showered encomium on the late music icon for grooming many home and in diaspora who had broken even to become masters on their own in the industry.
The lawmaker made the remarks during the reception ceremony of late Chief Charles Effiom-Duke, in-law to former House of Representative member representing Bekwarra Obudu Obanlikwu federal constituency, Legor Idagbor, at the Dome Event Centre Càlabar Municipality Council headquarters yesterday.
In his eulogy to the late music icon, Williams praised Chief Duke for grooming many in the industry who can now work with their shoulders high in the industry.
The late musician Charles Duke is father-in-law to former House of Representative member representing Bekwarra, Obudu Obanlikwu federal constituency, and was a well-known as far as highlife musician in Cross River State was concerned before his demise.
Also speaking, senator representing Cross River South Senatorial district Asuquo Ekpenyong, late chief Duke who was father to Cassandra Legor Idagbor as a colossus in the entertainment industry who did all that he could to rise to the zenith of his career, impacted many around him in his days as a musician.
“Having mentored many notable musical artiste in the state. I prayed for peaceful repose of his soul”.
“Chief Charles Effiom Duke is one man who had indeed left a legacy of creative excellence and has thus left indelible marks on the sands of time”.
Other dignitaries who also lend their voices to eulogize the father of Hon Legor Idagbor’s wife Capt Cassandra Legor Idagbor include the state governor Bassey Otu, Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Elvert Ayambem, Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy Prince Eka Williams, former Cross River State deputy governor, Prof. Ivara Esu, among several dignitaries present at the ceremony.
They honored the memory of the late music legend and expressed concern over the lack of mentorship and support for aspiring artists.
Governor Bassey Otu promised to assist the family and urged established artists to help those on the rise.
