Saraki’s former CoS, Gbenga Makanjuola, dumps PDP

Honourable Gbenga Makanjuola, a former member of the House of Representatives and former deputy chief of staff to the President of the 8th Senate, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a letter dated July 30, 2024, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in his Omu-Aran Ward 1, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Makanjuola formally communicated his departure from the party. The letter was also copied to the Local Government Chairman and the State Chairman of the PDP.

The letter reads:

30th July, 2024

The Ward Chairman

Kwara State

Dear Sir,

RE: RESIGNATION FROM THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP)

I write to formally inform you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from this 30th day of July, 2024.

I want to thank God Almighty for the journey so far and extend my gratitude to the members and leadership of the party at the ward, local, and state levels for the opportunity.

Please accept my esteemed regards.

Yours Faithfully,
Hon. (Barr) Gbenga Makanjuola

CC:

  1. The Chairman, PDP, Irepodun LGA
  2. The Chairman, PDP, Kwara State

This resignation comes shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja discharged Makanjuola and Kolawole Shittu, former aides to former Senate President Bukola Saraki, of N3.5 billion fraud charges.

In a statement to journalists following the court ruling, Makanjuola expressed relief and gratitude.

“To God be the glory, I have been vindicated,” he said. “It’s been a tough journey for me for almost eight years, but at the end of the day, I just want to thank God for seeing me through.”

He praised the court’s decision and highlighted a recent Supreme Court judgement that affirmed the legitimacy of the funds in question.

“The court confirmed that with the Supreme Court judgement, the criminal charges cannot proceed again, and that’s the end of it,” Makanjuola added.
