A recent adjustment to Viktor Gyökeres’ contract clause has significantly enhanced Liverpool and Arsenal’s chances of securing him this summer.

Both Premier League clubs are seeking a new striker to bolster their squads as they aim to compete with Manchester City for the title. Gyökeres, who has been one of the most sought-after strikers after scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists last season for Sporting Lisbon, has caught their attention.

Reports on Monday revealed that Arsenal scouts were present to observe Gyökeres’ performance against Athletic Bilbao over the weekend. It is now understood that Sporting Lisbon is willing to entertain offers below Gyökeres’ £86 million release clause due to interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool.

In addition to Premier League interest, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have also expressed interest in Gyökeres, with Atletico keen to make a move if they can offload Joao Felix.

Gyökeres joined Sporting Lisbon from Coventry City last year, with the Championship side including a sell-on clause in the deal. Sporting has recently paid £2.5 million to reduce Coventry’s sell-on fee from 15% to 10%, signaling their intent to sell Gyökeres this summer and maximize their share of the transfer fee.

With this adjustment, clubs are now positioned to compete for Gyökeres’ signature, though Manchester United, who had previously shown interest, have addressed their striker needs by acquiring Joshua Zirkzee for £36 million.
