Tinubu praises D’Tigress coach, Rena Wakama, for being recognized as the best women’s basketball coach.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated D’Tigress coach, Ms. Rena Wakama, on being recognized as the best women’s basketball coach at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, delivered a remarkable performance at the Olympics, becoming the first African basketball team to reach the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu remarked that “the recognition of Ms. Wakama, 32, by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), further highlights her well-established leadership qualities and dedication to excellence.”

The President praised the team, the coach, and everyone involved in achieving this unprecedented feat at the Olympics, urging them to remain resilient and determined in their pursuit of greatness.

He emphasized that while winning trophies and medals is the ultimate goal in competitive sports, the values of good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice displayed by those representing Nigeria at the Olympic Games are paramount.
