Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Asefon Sunday, on Tuesday, said that President Bola Tinubu believes in raising young leaders for future political offices.
In the same vein, the president’s aide appealed to Nigerian youths to be patient with the present administration, saying that the president means well for youths.
Sunday stated this in Makurdi while speaking with journalists during three-day capacity building and leadership development training programme for selected student union leaders in Nigeria’s Tertiary Institutions.
The theme of the training is ‘Building responsible young leaders for national development’, and the participants were drawn from North Central.
According to the president’s aide, the student leaders were gathered for training on conflict resolution management as well as to be informed on policies and programmes of government.
He noted that the president has interest in building future leaders, hence, the need for training of student leaders to move them from protest to participation in governance.
The president’s aide further said that the present administration meant well for the youths and charged them not to make themselves available for use by those he described as ‘enemies’ of the state.
According to him, “Am calling on youths to be patient with the government of President Tinubu because the president means well for them.
“They should not allow enemies of the state to use them because there are a lot of people whose policies and programmes of this government do not tally with theirs.
“Those who have milked the nation dry are the ones trying to use youths and students to embark on end bad governance protest to destabilize government.
Sunday further said that the present administration has invested so much in education more than the former presidents, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammad Buhari.
Also speaking, the consultant of the training, Solomon Alabi said that the capacity building was to teach the student leaders skills on how to solve issues rather than resorting to protest in their various institutions.
