President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved September as date for the meetings of two statutory organs of the governing All Progressives Congress, the National Caucus and the National Executive Committee ( NEC).
Chief of Staff to the President, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, conveyed Tinubu’s approval of the date to the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Tuesday.
Checks revealed that the tacit approval of September 8-12 by President Tinubu who is the national leader of the party was sequel to a formal request by the party national chairman.
Further investigation revealed that Tinubu also approved December as tentative date for a Non elective convention.
Multiple sources at the APC National Secretriat revealed that governors in their first tenure smarting to oust loyalists of their predecessors as national officers have been putting pressures on Ganduje for a convention that would enable them install their foot soldiers at Buhari House.
The meetings of National Caucus and NEC will hold a year after the last one held last August at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja where the duo of Umar Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru emerged as national chairman and national secretary, respectively after Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, erstwhile chairman and secretary were forced to resign by the Presidency.
President Tinubu’s letter entitled, “Recommendation for the conduct of APC National Executive Committee Meeting and Midterm National Convention (Non elective), ” addressed to Ganduje led National Working Committee read in part:”Your Excellency, your previous correspondence on the above subject refers.
“I am directed by the president to inform that he has granted approval for the scheduling and convening of a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. The president has confirmed his availability for the NEC meeting between the date of 8 September 2024 and 19th September 2024.
“Furthermore, the president has directed that the agenda for the NEC meeting include, amongst other things; the consideration of a date for the non- elective national convention to be held before the end of the year 2024.
“Kindly liaise with the undersigned regarding any development or necessary clarifications related to the scheduling of the meeting.
“Please ensure that any changes or updates are communicated promptly to facilitate smooth coordination.”
