The former Foreign Affairs minister, Alhaji Sule Lamido has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relieve the Minister of State for Defence of his duties due to the worsening security situation in Zamfara.
The call was made in response to a video showing a first-class emir, an elderly man from Zamfara, being tortured by his abductors and crying for help.
The former minister stressed that this measure is necessary for the president to maintain his administration’s credibility in the eyes of both national and international communities.
Sule Lamido stated, “The person in the video clip, dressed in a blood-soaked gown, is a First Class Emir in Zamfara State, along with another individual.
They are pleading with the authorities to rescue them within the deadline given by their captors before they are executed.”
He emphasized that “the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the security of its citizens’ lives.”

Sule expressed regret, noting, “Tragically, the lives of these citizens are now at the mercy of bandits.
Ironically, the very government that is supposed to protect them is busy toasting and celebrating the vote of confidence it passed on itself.”
According to him, “What is even more tragic is that both Ministers of Defense are from the same geographical zone, with one of them hailing from the very state where these captives are being held.
Sadly, he was also the immediate past governor of the state.”
“In any civilized society, if the ministers lack the conscience to honorably resign, the president should have by now relieved them of their portfolios,” he added, stressing that the government must not risk losing public confidence.
