Journalist Cyriacus Njoku has withdrawn his lawsuit seeking ₦50 million from former Senate President Ken Nnamani.
The suit, filed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court under case number CV/2269/2023, alleged that Nnamani had failed to reward Njoku for authoring a book titled The Peoples Lawmaker on his tenure, despite an agreement to that effect.
In a motion dated June 19, 2024, and supported by an affidavit dated June 24, 2024, Njoku sought to discontinue the case. The affidavit revealed that Njoku had realized there was no written or oral agreement with Nnamani regarding the book. He apologized for the lawsuit and requested the court to dismiss the suit and not reinstate or appeal it in the future.
The motion was adopted on July 16, 2024, leading to the suit’s dismissal.
Nnamani’s counsel, Sunny Anyanwu, commented on the withdrawal, noting that Njoku had acted without a documented agreement. Anyanwu pointed out that Njoku’s demand for ₦50 million was misplaced and that the case should not have been filed. He advised potential litigants to ensure they have substantial evidence before approaching the court and acknowledged that Nnamani, despite having grounds to file a counter-suit for libel, chose not to do so out of respect and a sense of paternal responsibility.
Anyanwu emphasized that the court relies on documented agreements to resolve disputes and urged caution before initiating legal action.
