UNIBEN governing council lauds Oba of Benin’s impact in peacekeeping

The Governing Council of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), has commended the Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, for his outstanding impact and legacy in ensuring Nigeria’s peace and unity is sustained.

The Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the University Governing Council, Professor Shaibu Umar, who made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Oba Palace in Benin City, Edo State capital, stated that the visit was to identify with the Benin Royal Palace.

Addressing the Benin Royal throne, the leader of the delegation, stated that Oba Ewuare’s leadership role was not limited to Edo, but in Nigeria, and sued for its sustainability.

Professor Umar who waxed lyrical after addressing some housekeeping issues about the University that transformed anticipation into excellence, solicited  Royal blessings and support to enable the Council to discharge its responsibility efficiently.

“The strides and developmental efforts put by the Palace to ensure peaceful coexistence is not noticed only in Benin City, but in the entire Nigeria.

“Anyone who can govern the affairs of Benin Kingdom is capable of governing Nigeria.

“What your Royal Majesty is doing to have peace, stability and proper leadership to the good people of Benin is not only seen by the Benin people in Edo State, but it is seen all over the country. We request your Royal Majesty to continue”, he pleaded.

Responding, the Omo N’ Oba noted that he was not oblivious to the task ahead of the University of Benin Governing Council as the Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The first-class traditional ruler also pledged his support to the Federal Government-owned institution.

The UNIBEN Governing Council was accompanied to the palace by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Lilian Salami, and other principal officers of the school.
