The Lagos State House of Assembly successfully advanced the bill to establish the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy to its second reading.
During the session, Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa referred the bill to the committee on education for further deliberation. The bill received unanimous support from lawmakers, who highlighted its potential to enhance the state’s educational focus.
Deputy Majority Leader Adedamola Kasunmu expressed optimism that the academy will advance the state’s educational initiatives and foster future generations of leaders. “This academy will create educational models that emphasize legislative and executive skills,” he noted.

Hon. Femi Saheed praised the bill, stating that if enacted, it would provide a tailored leadership academy designed to develop youths culturally, socially, and academically. He emphasized the academy’s potential to strengthen the state’s feedback mechanisms.
Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu described the bill as a testament to the government’s commitment to cultivating leaders with advanced knowledge and problem-solving abilities. He encouraged against elitist practices and marginalization in the candidate registration process when the bill becomes law.
Lawmaker Aro Moshood commended the bill as a forward-looking initiative and suggested incorporating a focus on technological innovations and their applications in leadership.
