The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains in the North Central Zone have declared their support for the pronouncement by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, who has endorsed Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the position of National Chairman of the Party.
Former Senate President and Chairman of the North Central APC Elders Forum, Senator Ameh Ebute, made this declaration in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
Senator Ebute’s statement follows a media report attributed to Ahaji Saleh Zazzaga, who accused Governor Sule of betraying the region by pledging support for Ganduje.
Checks by Tribune Online revealed that ahead of the APC National Executive Committee meeting, the North Central region had been preparing for a confrontation with Ganduje over the office of National Chairman, which it lost to the North West region last year with the ouster of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Senator Ebute commended Governor Sule for his role in restoring peace to the APC in the region and applauded his recent courtesy visit to the APC National Headquarters to discuss the interests of the North Central geopolitical zone.
He stated, “We are happy that Governor A.A. Sule is leading the North Central geopolitical zone to reposition the party for maximum performance.”
The forum also commended the National Leader of the Party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for resolving the political crisis that had previously plagued the Benue APC.
The dissolution and constitution of the Caretaker Committee in Benue have restored peace to both the party and governance in the state.
Ebute urged all APC governors in the region to follow Nasarawa State’s example by paying courtesy visits to “the National Chairman of our Party to further cement our relationship with the leadership at the centre.”
While applauding the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee for establishing the National Progressives Institute, the forum urged Ganduje to include the North Central Zone in the leadership of the Institute, which is set to be unveiled by the party in the coming days.
“We are committed to supporting any initiative that will benefit the North Central people and use the governing APC to attract development to our zone,” the forum added.
