Ondo guber: PDP, APC trade words over plan to cause violence

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state, has raised the alarm over the plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to ochestrate violence and silence oppositions in the state ahead of the November governorship election in the state.

The party alleged that the state government has hired a private security firm, under the guise of stemming down the resurgence of kidnapping and other crimes across the state, but to advance obnoxious political agenda ahead of the November governorship election.

But, in its reaction, the ruling APC said the allegation described the allegation as baseless saying the allegation was clearly trumped up to malign the Governor’s good name and cause distraction from his achievements.

However, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity of Agboola Ajayi campaign organization, Ayo Fadaka, maintained that
Aiyedatiwa had concluded plans to compromise the peace and tranquility in the state, before and during the election.

Fadaka said the appointment of the private security firm by Aiyedatiwa’s government was to use the security firm to unleash violence during the election.

Fadaka who noted that the essence of creating Amotekun has been defeated said “We posit that the essence of the Amotekun Security Network is to discharge the responsibilities this faceless organisation is being contracted for.

“We posit that the appointment of Global Olabod Resources for whatever purpose is sinister and criminally designed to compromise the election through ballot snatching and intimidation of voters.

“Therefore we demand that the appointment of these mercenaries be rescindended forthwith as their activities will very certainly generate an adequate response by the people”

“We call on the Inspector General of Police, Director General of Department of State Security and Heads of other Security Agencies to take more interest in developments geared at causing security breach in Ondo State as we move towards the election, a stitch in time, they say saves nine.

“We also put President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on alert that his Party members are getting set to cause a breach of peace here in Ondo State, and as Commander in Chief, he must warn and reign them in immediately. We underscore that a dislocation of tranquility and orderliness in Ondo State will not only reverberate across the nation, but have very deep consequences.

However, the APC Director, Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, who debunked the allegations urged PDP to focus on issue-based campaign rather than resorting to unfounded allegations and scaremongering.

Otaloro stated that “We categorically deny all the allegations raised by the opposition party, which are clearly trumped up to malign the Governor’s good name and distract from his achievements.

“The Governor’s commitment to peace and security in Ondo State is unwavering, and we reject any insinuation that he plans to cause a security breach.

“Every actions taken by the government on security are legitimate effort to enhance security in the state, and we will not be swayed by the PDP’s mischievous interpretation.

“We also reject the PDP’s attempt to link Governor Aiyedatiwa to any act of violence or intimidation. His leadership has been marked by inclusivity, tolerance, and respect for all citizens.

“We urge the PDP to focus on issue-based campaigning rather than resorting to unfounded allegations and scaremongering. The people of Ondo State deserve better.

“We assure the public that Governor Aiyedatiwa remains committed to delivering on his campaign promises and ensuring a peaceful and fair election on November 16th.”
