Nigeria going through reforms, Tinubu tells diaspora in China

President Tinubu affirmed that Nigeria is going through reforms while speaking at the China World Hotel in Beijing.

In a recent address to Nigerians living in China, on Friday, Tinubu affirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance and promised to replicate the successes China has achieved for its people; Tinubu described his visit to China as “very good and successful.”

Tinubu engaged in extensive discussions with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in infrastructure, trade, finance, energy, green economy, and mining.

Tinubu also led Nigeria’s delegation at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Addressing the Nigerian diaspora, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of the ongoing reforms in Nigeria, highlighting the need for bold and unprecedented decisions to drive the country’s development.

He acknowledged the challenges, including recent changes in fuel prices, and drew parallels with China’s achievements in infrastructure, consistent electricity supply, and quality education.

“We want to hand over a banner without stain to our children,” Tinubu stated. “What is the critical part to get us there if we cannot take hard decisions to pave the way for a country that is blessed and so talented?”

Tinubu’s commitment to replicating China’s infrastructure successes in Nigeria was met with applause. He stressed the need for innovative education, flourishing businesses, and a strong focus on national development.

Dr. Oche Barnabas, President of NIDO China, requested the President’s support in advocating for Nigeria to be officially recognized by China as a native English-speaking nation.

This recognition, he argued, would open up job and educational opportunities for Nigerians in China.

President Tinubu concluded his address by affirming his resolve to make difficult decisions for the progress of Nigeria and praised his team for their focus and dedication.
