Nigeria’s Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, has underscored the significance of traditional institutions in fostering sustainable development and national cohesion.
The Vice President made this assertion in Bauchi when he led a high-powered Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit over the recent death of the Emir of Ningi, Late Yu Muhammadu Danyaya.
Kashim Shettima emphasized that traditional rulers, as custodians of the culture and traditions of the people, cannot be sidelined in the scheme of things, particularly in local administration.
During a condolence visit to Governor Mohammed at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office on Friday, Vice President Shettima extended the Federal Government’s heartfelt sympathies and felicitations to the government and people of Bauchi State on the passing of the late Emir and the appointment of a new Emir.
“I pray that Allah grants the late Emir eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and blesses the new Emir with wisdom and strength to excel in his mandate,” Vice President Shettima said.
He commended Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for his exemplary leadership in ensuring continuity and stability in the Ningi Emirate.
This follows the Governor’s appointment of Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, the eldest son of the late Emir, as the 16th Emir of Ningi.
Senator Shettima expressed President Tinubu’s shock and sadness upon hearing the news of the monarch’s demise and praised the late Emir’s contributions to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.
Kashim Shettima highlighted the significant role the late Emir played in nation-building, describing the monarch as a unifying force who worked tirelessly to promote peace, stability, and development in Bauchi State and beyond.
He also praised the late Emir’s commitment to education, healthcare, and economic development, describing him as a champion of progress and a beacon of hope for his people.
Kashim Shettima, accompanied to Ningi by the Federal and State government delegations, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for making a wise choice in the selection of the new Emir, urging continued prayers and support for the Emirate as they forge ahead.
“The legacy of the late Emir will forever remain etched in our memories,” Shettima stated, acknowledging the late Emir’s immense contributions to peace, development, and the cultural heritage of the Ningi Emirate.
In his remarks, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his timely visit and for extending the condolences of the Federal Government, especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Bala Mohammed assured the Vice President of Bauchi State’s continued partnership with the Federal Government in ensuring the well-being of its citizens. He also expressed his gratitude for the recognition and support from the Federal Government, praying for abundant rewards from Allah.
He described the late Emir as a revered leader and a symbol of unity in the state, praising his role in promoting peace and development, and noting that his wisdom and guidance would be greatly missed.
The new Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya, thanked Vice President Shettima for his condolence visit and Governor Mohammed for approving the recommendations of the Ningi Emirate Kingmakers. He pledged his continued loyalty and support.
He stressed that “This harmonious transition underscores the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and government in promoting peace, stability, and development.”
The new Emir expressed optimism for the future of the Emirate, pledging his commitment to building on the foundations laid by his predecessor.
