Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has criticized the crowded fixture schedule for this season. The Belgian expressed concern over the number of matches players will face, specifically targeting FIFA and UEFA for increasing the number of fixtures.
De Bruyne, whose team is set to compete across multiple competitions organized by FIFA, UEFA, and the English FA, accused these governing bodies of prioritizing financial gain over player welfare.
He told Mundo Deportivo, “Maybe this year everything will be fine, but next year it will be a problem. The PFA in England and other players’ associations have tried to address this, but UEFA and FIFA keep adding extra matches without finding a solution. They only care about money.”
De Bruyne also noted, “The real issue will arise after the Club World Cup. Between the final of the Club World Cup and the start of the Premier League, there will only be three weeks. We have just three weeks off before gearing up for another 80 games.”
