Harry Kane has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent achievement of scoring 900 career goals has inspired him to “play for as long as possible.”
The England captain is set to earn his 100th cap on Tuesday during England’s Nations League match against Finland at Wembley. Since making his senior debut in 2015, Kane has played in a World Cup semi-final and two European Championship finals.
Despite his prolific goal-scoring record and being England’s all-time top scorer, Kane has yet to win a major trophy with either his club or country. However, the Bayern Munich striker is determined to end his trophy drought, drawing motivation from Ronaldo, who scored his 900th and 901st goals while on international duty this past week.
“I feel in really good shape, both physically and mentally, at the peak of my career,” Kane told reporters ahead of the Finland clash. “Watching [Cristiano] Ronaldo score his 901st goal and seeing him compete at 39 years old inspires me to play for as long as possible.”
Kane continued, “I love this game, I love representing England, and I don’t want it to end anytime soon. For me, it’s about continuing to improve and being consistent both for England and at the club level. I’m hungry for more and determined to keep pushing the boundaries.”
Reflecting on his upcoming milestone, Kane said, “Reaching 100 caps is really special. It’s something I’m extremely proud of. I’m excited for the moment, and having my family there to share it makes it even more meaningful. It’s a moment I’m sure I’ll look back on fondly when I retire.”
England will face Finland at Wembley on Tuesday as the international break concludes.
