After a donation of the sum of N50m to Yobe State Government, Gombe State Government has also donated the sum of N100m to Borno State Government.
The donation was a way of identifying with the government and people of the State over the recent flood disaster that devastated the State Capital and environs.
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who was represented by a high-powered delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, presented the donation of N100 million as assistance to the victims of the incident.
He also, prayed to God that such devastating incidents never reoccur in the history of Borno State.
While conveying the heartfelt sympathy of the Governor and people of Gombe State at the Government House and the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri on Friday, the Deputy Governor said that the visit was informed by the bond existing between the two states.
Also speaking was the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who said that the news of the devastating flood got to the Governor who is on an official engagement outside the country.
The SSG revealed that the Governor immediately directed that the visit be made in view of the friendship existing between the two neighbouring states.
At the Government House, Maiduguri, Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum expressed appreciation for the concern and love shown to them in this trying time.
He also acknowledged and appreciated the donations of N100 million from Gombe State Government, pledging to use it judiciously towards mitigating the effect of the flood.
The Gombe delegation proceeded to the palace of His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Al’amin Elkanami, where the Deputy Governor, Manasseh Daniel Jatau sympathized with the people over loss of lives and property, praying to the Almighty Allah to repose the soul of the deceased, and that such unfortunate incidents do not happen again.
The Shehu of Borno appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya for sending such a high-powered contingent to commiserate with them, describing the magnitude of the disaster as greater than that which occurred 30 years ago.
The Gombe delegation also visited some areas affected by the flooding incidents within Maiduguri metropolis as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, ( Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe.
