Ahead of the start of Manchester City’s 115 Financial Fair Play (FFP) charges case, there is a proposal for the club to face a points deduction “across multiple seasons,” according to the UK Telegraph.
Several top-flight clubs believe that a single points deduction would serve as sufficient punishment if City are found guilty, even if it leads to their relegation from the Premier League.
A senior figure in football has suggested that docking points over multiple seasons would prevent Pep Guardiola’s side from bouncing back immediately and challenging for trophies.
The case, which begins on Monday, is expected to last for 10 weeks. Manchester City were charged by the Premier League in February 2023, with the alleged offences spanning the years 2009 to 2018, a period during which the club secured numerous league titles and domestic trophies.
