Plateau LG elections: APC uncovers plot to destabilise party

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has uncovered a plan by a group to create problems and cause disaffection within the party ahead of the forthcoming local government elections slated for October 9, 2024.

The party, in a statement signed by its acting state publicity secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, said information at the disposal of the party revealed that a group of persons under the name “‘foundation members” is mobilising some people to create confusion and rift in the party.

The statement depicted that as part of the grand plan of the group, it has slated Wednesday 18, 2024, to address a World Press Conference in Abuja, with the sole purpose of misinforming members of the public on the state of affairs in the Party on the Plateau.

“In the first instance, the name “foundation members” connotes mischief, because as far as the APC is concerned, there exist no differentials in respect of membership, since all supporters enjoy the same recognition and respect in the Party.

“Therefore, for anybody or group of persons to wake up and claim superiority over others, is an attempt to create class difference with the sole intention of weakening the Party structure and cohesion in order to achieve some subterranean motives.

“As a matter of fact, the Party is not unaware that some people have not been happy with the on-going reconciliatory exercise and would therefore go all out to sabotage the moves for some reasons best known to them.”

It mentioned that what smacks suspicion and misgivings about the motive of the group is the timing of its planned actions, particularly when the local government elections are about to take place.

The party added that the intelligence gathered points to the fact that the main purpose of the group is to ferment trouble in order for the party not to be able to face the local government elections squarely.

The APC therefore appealed to its members to remain calm and resolute, as well as disregard any misinformation that might come from the group, as it is nothing but a hatchet job, to frustrate the Party from actively participating in the local government elections in the state.
