A 29-year-old man from Benin, Edo State, had a land dispute after his father passed away. His father owned several properties and had written a will with the family lawyer before his death. Some of the man’s siblings knew what was in the will.
When the father passed away, the family lawyer read the will to everyone. According to the will, the man was given a three-bedroom flat and three plots of land, with the locations clearly stated.
When the man went to develop the land, he found out that his uncle had already taken over the land. He politely told his uncle that the land belonged to him as per his father’s will. His uncle argued that the land was jointly purchased and no one could claim it without his consent. Later, the uncle claimed that the land was his and that the man’s father had no rights to it.
The man took the matter to the family. The head of the family, along with other family members, called the uncle and showed him proof that the land belonged to the man. They told the uncle to stop claiming it.
A few days later, the man went to the land to start developing it. While he was there, something pricked his foot. By 6:00 PM, his leg began to swell and cause him severe pain.
