A social crusader and rights activist, Donald Nwaneri, has raised concerns about the continued detention of many #EndBadGovernance protesters without trial in the country.
He, however, called on President Bola Tinubu to order their immediate end unconditional release.
In an open letter to President Tinubu, Nwaneri noted that an Abuja-based businessman, Chukwudi Opara, and over 1,400 others arrested in connection with the protest have been languishing in police custody for more than one month and prayed Mr President to show leniency.
He remarked that a nursing mother, Mrs Eucharia Obianuju Opara, a fashion designer and wife of Chukwudi has also been subjected to serial harassment by security operatives who raided her shop over allegation that her shop produced Russian Flags used by the protesters.
The Imo-based activist lamented that besides a British nationale, Andrew Martin Wynne, other Nigerians: Lucky Ehis Obiyan, Obiajunwa Nnaemeka Peter, Nwachukwu Justin Ikedi, and Abdullahi Musa are currently on ‘police watchlist’ for alleged treason.
He said: “the wife, Mrs Eucharia Obianuju Opara, a fashion designer also based in Abuja, who recently delivered baby has been forced to abandon her residence and shop because of serial commando raids by policemen who claimed her fashion shop designed the Russian Flag used by protesters in parts of Northern Nigeria”.
He recalled that the Nigerian Police managed to arraign just 10 of the detainees: Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye (a.k.a Lenin); Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi (a.k a Yomi); Suleiman Yakubu; Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon; Angel Love Innocent, (the only female among them) before a High Court in Abuja and left the rest.
