PDP accuses Police of harassing, intimidating members in Edo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign Council for the September 21, governorship election in Edo State on Wednesday flayed the police for allegedly intimidating and harassing members of the party.

The Director General,Asue/Ogie Campaign Committee, Hon. Matthew lduoriyekemwen, said this during a press conference in Benin City.

According to him, some operatives in the police inconvenience with the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly deployed the odd tactics to destabilise and cause chaos in Edo State.

He alleged that the State APC chairman, Mr. Jarret Tenebe orchestrated a trump-up petition to cause the police to arrest the Chairman of Esan North East council, Hon. Kelly llenedagbor.

He alleged that the police has demonstrated bias in the Benin Airport shooting on July 18th, which claimed the life of a police orderly to Okpebholo.

He also alleged that some members who were allegedly involved in the violence are walking free.

“The APC are boasting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had promised to gift Edo State to them, notwithstanding the desire of Edo people on whom to vote for as governor.”

He appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to maintain the high integrity that is associated with his Office, even as he said “Police is for all Nigerians, and not an extension of the APC.

Responding, CP Funsho Adegboye, denied the PDP allegations, saying “The case has been transferred to Abuja. Whatever observations or comments anybody has should be directed to the force headquarters.

Also responding, Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo, Director of Publicity, APC medial campaign council, said the PDP actions so far, is an attempt to harass the police and block investigation of the violent crimes they have visited on the state and her people.

“Rather than show remorse, the PDP has gone ahead to irresponsibly drag names of innocent people into their illicit lies.

“Nigerians may wish to note that, the Vanguard Newspapers have tendered apology for accepting and publishing the libelous advertorial that contained the names and faces of innocent Nigerians that had nothing to do with fatal shooting at the Benin airport”

He however appealed to the National Security Adviser to do everything logically possible to outlaw Godwin Obaseki’s private ‘police’ called Edo State Security Network (ESSN).
