Transfer: I Told Real Madrid to Sign Him – Guti on Chelsea-Bound Forward

Former Real Madrid midfielder Hugo Gutiérrez, known as Guti, revealed that he urged the Spanish giants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portuguese teammate, João Félix, back in 2017.

Guti mentioned that he noticed Félix’s remarkable talent when the young player was dominating in the Youth League and believed he would be an excellent addition to Real Madrid.

Reports indicate that, like Ronaldo, Félix garnered significant attention in Portugal as he advanced through Benfica’s youth ranks. The Atlético Madrid forward delivered a series of outstanding performances during his time at Benfica, particularly in the Youth League, before making his senior team debut.

Félix became a top target for several European clubs after his stellar 2018-2019 season, in which he scored 20 goals and provided 11 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions for Benfica.

According to Madridxtra on X, Guti revealed that he recommended Félix to Real Madrid shortly before Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus in the summer of 2018. Guti stated, “I told Real Madrid to keep track of João Félix in 2017. He was ridiculous in the Youth League; he was destroying everyone.”
